Gavin Burt, the founder and co-Director of Chelmsford based Beanstalk Marketing handed Bliss, the special care baby charity, a cheque for £31,340.99 on Thursday 19 January at Bliss’ HQ in London. Gavin fundraised for the charity by taking on the Three Peak Challenge last year; a non-stop attempt to reach the summits of Ben Nevis, Scaffell Pike and Snowdon in 24 hours.

80,000 babies are born premature or sick in the UK every year and in need of specialist care. Bliss exists to ensure that all babies born too soon, too small or too sick in the UK have the best possible chance of survival and of reaching their full potential.
Gavin, who lives in Chelmsford, organised teams to take part using contacts through networking group BNI (an organisation that helps businesses in a local area to develop). Gavin co-ordinated nine teams, from across the UK, with over 60 people taking part in the challenge, as well as fundraising including a glittering charity ball sponsored by Mercedes in Chelmsford.

Gavin said: “The teams experienced appalling weather conditions with winds gusting at 80 mph, occasional blizzards and temperatures of -17C at the top of Ben Nevis. However, we were all prepared to take this on to raise money for the fantastic work that Bliss do”
Gavin took time out from his rapidly expanding company to organise and complete the challenge. The 20 strong Beanstalk Marketing team, based in Chelmsford, are experts at helping businesses to grow, despite the doom and gloom of the current economic climate.
Bliss’ National Projects Manager Patrick Browne says: “The three peaks challenge is an incredible fundraising event and we are extremely grateful to Gavin and the members of BNI who raised such a generous amount by taking part to raise vital funds for Bliss. This money will help Bliss support babies and their families during an incredibly difficult and stressful time.”
Chelmsford MP and Minister for State for Health Simon Burns said “It is a truly fantastic achievement to have raised so much money for Bliss and all those who took part should feel very proud of themselves.”
